TOP WILDLIFE TOUR – TRACKING WOLVES AND LYNX IN SLOVAKIA

Experience the thrill of tracking wolves and lynx in the Slovak wilderness. Wolves prefer long, straight mountain ridges and often travel along forest paths, especially when these are cleared or well-trodden in winter. To avoid deeper snow most of the wildlife is concentrated at the foothills during winter. These natural routes, foothills and valleys are exactly where we head out to track and observe them in Tatra mountains.

WOLVES AND LYNX HUNTING STYLES:

Wolfs can pursue its prey for several kilometres and, when the moment comes, burst into an instant sprint reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h.

The lynx is a shy, elusive shadow of the forest — a solitary hunter. hunts every 2-3 days as he only eat fresh meat. He is the smallest of Europe’s three great predators. Instead of chasing large animals, the lynx focuses on quicker, smaller prey like roe deer. Sometimes it goes after fawns, wild boar piglets, rodents, or even foxes.

What makes the lynx so successful is its hunting style. It doesn’t waste energy on long pursuits. Instead, it waits, silent and invisible, and then strikes with a sudden, explosive attack. This is why people call it “the sharp-eyed hunter.” Its vision is incredibly precise, and its hearing picks up even the faintest sound — perfect tools for a master of stealth.
